The Minnesota Department of Transportation, in conjunction with Hennepin County, will replace the bridge deck that carries Central Avenue (County Road 101) over Highway 12.
The project requires removing and replacing the deck. The bridge will be wider and left turns will be added to improve traffic and safety.
The concrete on the bridge is deteriorating. This work will preserve the integrity of the bridge.
The bridge and ramps will be closed. Traffic detours include County Road 6, Vicksburg Lane, Gleason Drive and Wayzata Boulevard. Impacts on Highway 12 are expected to be minimal and will include lane shifts and shoulder closures.
The project is set to begin in April. The bridge is expected to remain open this spring as crews work in the area. In early July, the bridge will close as workers replace concrete and add turn lanes. The bridge and ramps will remain closed through October. However, the westbound and eastbound on-ramps could reopen sooner. Project dates are weather dependent.
This project is expected to cost about $4 million.
