Land Surveys
When Should You Have a Survey Completed?
Property owners commonly obtain a survey when:
- Planning a construction project, addition, fence, retaining wall, or other improvement. Contact planning@plymouthmn.gov or call 763-509-5450 for more information about whether a survey may be required for your project.
- Resolving a property line question or dispute with a neighboring property owner.
Only a licensed land surveyor can legally locate and mark private property boundaries.
What the City Cannot Do
The City of Plymouth cannot:
- Mark or locate private property lines or survey monuments (property pins).
- Provide surveys that establish private property boundaries.
- Send staff to a property to identify property lines.
- Determine ownership or take sides in private property disputes.
