Copies of police reports should be requested in writing. To simplify the procedure, fill out the Information Disclosure Request Form below and submit it to the Plymouth Police Department.

The department attempts to fill requests as soon as possible. It may take up to ten days to process requests, as information on some reports may be private or confidential and must be separated before copies can be released. Many reports are available at no charge. Crimes are defined by federal and state law, and in some instances, city ordinances. Within various crimes, there are levels of seriousness, which are commonly called felon, gross misdemeanor, misdemeanor and petty misdemeanor. These levels are generally defined within state law that defines crime. 

Crimes are also commonly placed into two groups: 

• Crimes against persons (such crimes as homicide and rape); and
• Crimes against property (burglary and theft). 

Crimes are also put into categories of Part I or Part II crimes. These categories are defined by the FBI. Part I crimes are defined by the FBI as crimes that are generally similarly defined in all 50 states. These Part I crime statistics are then commonly used to compare statistics for various communities. 

If you see a crime in progress or need a police response for any reason, please call 9-1-1 immediately. If you wish to remain anonymous, be sure and tell the dispatcher. When calling, remember to give as much information as possible, including what is happening and where. Also, get as much of a description of the suspects and vehicles involved as possible.

If you have information on a past crime that might help police solve the crime (such as the name of a suspect, a license plate of a suspect's vehicle, the location of a suspect, etc.), you can call the Crime Tip Line at 763-509-5177. The department compiles public information on incidents and arrests. This information is generally available at the front counter of the Public Safety Department on a weekly basis (Fridays), but is subject to change due to holidays and scheduling conflicts. This information includes the date, time, case number, location and basic summary information of incidents that occurred. If anyone was arrested or charged, that information is also included in the report.
