False Alarms

False alarms are costly for the City of Plymouth. Police respond to thousands of false alarms each year. The purpose of an alarm ordinance is to encourage alarm users to maintain the operational reliability and proper use of alarm systems and to reduce or eliminate false alarms. We also encourage users to immediately contact their monitoring companies on accidental trips to cancel police response.

In an effort to reduce false alarms, the city charges fees for false alarms. Businesses and homeowners in Plymouth must also register their alarm systems that are centrally monitored. There is no charge to register your system. Commercial users are allowed one false alarm per calendar year with no charges and residential users are allowed two false alarms per calendar year.
