This event will offer a variety of free activities, including ice skating, snowshoeing, sled dog rides and tube slides. Participants may wander through the snow village or enjoy a winter train ride. For warmth, attendees may gather around bonfires or in a heated tent and play bingo. Children may enjoy a snow play area and photo opportunities at the llama meet-and-greet. 

Food will be available for purchase at the event; attendees should bring cash and/or credit cards.

Parking at Plymouth Creek Playfield is limited to accessible parking only. Free shuttle service is available, running to and from the Plymouth Community Center main entrance, 14800 34th Ave. N. as well as to and from Plymouth City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd. There is no cost to park at either location. Shuttles will run from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m.

In the event of extreme temperatures or inclement weather, a Fire & Ice event cancellation will be announced on this webpage and via the weather line at 763-509-5205.

About the Contest

Known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” Minnesota also becomes the “Land of Backyard Rinks” each winter.

New this year, Plymouth residents are invited to show off their backyard ice rinks by participating in the Fire & Ice backyard rink contest. To participate, residents may upload a photo or video link of their rink on this webpage Monday, Jan. 5 through Friday, Jan. 16, after which staff will select the top three rinks to visit before choosing a winner.

The top three finalists will be contacted by Wednesday, Jan. 21 to schedule visits between Monday, Jan. 26 through Friday, Jan. 30.

The contest is open to Plymouth residents only, and the winning rink will receive a $250 prize. Video link submissions may not exceed one minute in length.

Jan. 22 Update: Fire & Ice Medallion has been found

The Fire & Ice Medallion has been found. Congratulations to Amy and Jonathan who located the medallion on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Queensland Park, 17915 8th Ave. N.

The 16th-annual Fire & Ice Medallion Hunt begins Thursday, Jan. 8 with a clue posted on the city's social media platforms and the Fire & Ice webpage. 

More clues will be published Thursdays, Jan. 15, 22 and 29, or until someone finds the medallion. There is no need to register or pay to participate. A $250 prize is awarded to the first sleuth who finds the medallion. 

The medallion is hidden on city property. The medallion is hidden in such a way that it is not out in the open. Staff does not uncover it after a snowfall to make it more visible. Participants should be able to wipe away any snow to find the location of the medallion. The person who finds the medallion should contact Plymouth Parks and Recreation at 763-509-5200.

Well hello again, medallion fans,
It’s that time of year – I’ve got plans.

I have traveled all across this great city,
Hiding spots that are oh so witty.

This year my spot is pretty bold,
Get outside and embrace the cold!

Clue #2: Published Jan. 15

Clue two is here and in a park, I still sit,
I sure hope you’re not bored of this bit.

To find me there is no need to dig,
Hiding in something that’s normally big.

Last year I traveled more to the east,
Go the other way and odds of finding me increase.

One to week three, the temps are low,
And no one has found me, dontcha know.

Here I sit, frozen in place,
If I wasn’t stuck, I might win the race.

With a little perseverance you could get the crown.
