The City of Plymouth is developing a vision for potential redevelopment near I-494 and Highway 55 through a small area plan study. The city contracted with TKDA to assist in establishing a small area plan for the southeast quadrant of the Highway 55 and I-494 interchange, a key gateway into the community.

Design Framework:

  • Improve active transportation opportunities with connections to planned pedestrian, bike, and bus rapid transit (BRT) networks
  • Create residential density that aligns with average highway BRT recommendations (minimum 20 units per acre)
  • Implement placemaking design principles to enhance streetscapes and greenspaces
  • Spur redevelopment and reinvestment to meet short-term and long-term city goals
