Mayor’s Minutes is a regular segment produced by CCX Media, which features area mayors and topics that may be of interest to residents.
Discover Plymouth
The city held its Discover Plymouth event in March, which brought more than 1,500 attendees to the Fieldhouse Dome at the Plymouth Community Center. More than 100 vendors, with a variety of businesses, artisans, city departments, nonprofit organizations and youth entrepreneurs were on hand to meet with attendees.
Part of the event included the State of the City annual address, which featured an overview of Plymouth’s past year with updates about city finances, public safety, infrastructure and successfully completed projects.
Local Sales Tax
To support major investments in the city’s recreational facilities, Plymouth is seeking legislative authorization for a half-cent local sales tax. If approved by the Minnesota Legislature, the proposed projects and the half-cent local sales tax will be presented to Plymouth voters in November.
The proposed sales tax would help fund three major initiatives – an expansion and renovation of the Plymouth Ice Center, the construction of a new year-round fieldhouse to replace the seasonal dome at the Plymouth Community Center, and a new regional sports complex at the former Four Seasons Mall site.
The Plymouth History Center has launched a new website designed to make it easier for residents and visitors to explore, learn and engage with Plymouth’s rich history. The new website serves as a central destination where users can discover exhibits, access research materials, learn about special events at the history center and more.
