Mayor’s Minutes: The Meadows Playfield and summer happenings

In this edition of Mayor’s Minutes, Plymouth Mayor Jeff Wosje shares information about The Meadows Playfield ribbon cutting and highlights some upcoming events.

The Meadows Playfield

The City of Plymouth held a ribbon cutting ceremony in June to celebrate the opening of its 69th park – The Meadows Playfield.

The new park features the city’s first-ever cricket pitch, along with other amenities shaped by resident input, including pickleball and tennis courts, a sledding hill, strider bike course, a four-season restroom building, trails and more.

Night to Unite - Aug. 5

An annual statewide get-to-know-the-neighbors initiative, Night to Unite returns to Plymouth neighborhoods 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The evening serves as a community-building event centered around crime prevention and strengthening neighborhood ties. Neighbors are encouraged to host outdoor gatherings that can be as simple as potluck dinners, ice cream socials or ordering carryout from a local restaurant. Beaches, Bands and Brews - Aug. 8

Beaches, Bands and Brews is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at East Medicine Lake Park. Food and beverages will be available to purchase while enjoying free live music by the band Shirts and Skins.   

Hilde Nights: Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show - Aug. 15

Hilde Night’s final event for the summer is set for 6-9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, featuring Rumours: The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show. Hailing from Los Angeles, Rumours travels North America performing the music of Fleetwood Mac. Opening act, the Young and the Rest, perform the songs of Neil Young, CSN, America, the Eagles and other artists from the ‘70s. 

Kids Fest - Aug. 21

A summer carnival with a splash of learning, Kids Fest is set for 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Hilde. The event features stage entertainment, a STEAM Zone (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), sponsor activities, vendor booths, face painting, balloons, inflatables, bounce houses and more. The event is held on the Hilde stage and surrounding lawn and is free and open to the public.
