Plymouth partners with Hennepin County for compost bin sale
The City of Plymouth, in partnership with Hennepin County, will host a compost bin sale. Residents must pre-order bin kits online at hennepin.us/composting. Orders are due Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Compost bin kits will be available for pickup 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the Plymouth Maintenance Facility parking lot, 14900 23rd Ave. N. There will be no additional bins available for sale at the event.
Bins are 3-by-3-foot cubes made of cedar and wire mesh. Each bin is $50. Lids cost $10. Bins are built by Sentencing to Service crews, an on-the-job carpenter training program for low-risk offenders.
Residents may also purchase bins at the Hennepin County Recycling Center and Transfer Station, 8100 Jefferson Highway, Brooklyn Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.Using a compost bin can help reduce household waste and prevent it from being dumped into a landfill. Using the material generated by composting is also a natural way to fertilize and add nutrients to gardens and landscaping. For more information about composting, visit plymouthmn.gov/compost.
