The Plymouth Fire Department is proud to be sending its Extrication Team to compete internationally in the 2012 North American Challenge, Sept. 11-15.
In 2011, Plymouth Fire Department’s Extrication Team competed in the Regional Extrication Team Competition in Rockford, Illinois. The team’s exceptional performance earned it an invitation to the exclusive North American National Tournament that is held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There will be 30 teams from all over the world, including teams from Germany, England, Switzerland and Canada.
The team’s participation in the competition is being paid for by the Plymouth Lions Club, which donated $2,000, along with proceeds from the Plymouth Crime and Fire Prevention Fund’s Annual Waffle Breakfast and Golf Tournament. City tax dollars are not being used for the trip.
The extrication competition will take place over five days and firefighters will be attending specialized classes taught by respected leaders in the business and private industry. They will learn new rescue techniques and practice with state of the art equipment. When they return to Minnesota, team members will bring this education with them and host trainings for local fire departments and mutual aid partners.
Congratulations to Lieutenants Chuck Perbix, Andy Etzel, Matt Evans, Matt Nordby and Firefighters Scott Stevenson, Sergio Flores and Grant Collins who make up the Extrication Team.
