After moving into a new home, residents can apply for homestead. Qualifying applicants can receive a market value exclusion, which may reduce their property taxes the following year.

Homestead is a Minnesota property tax classification for residential properties occupied as a primary residence by the owner or qualifying relative of the owner. View the state statute

Apply Online
After closing and moving into a new home, residents can apply for homestead online via hennepin.us/homestead. The application uses a secure server and information will not be shared with outside parties. Residents can also track the status of online applications. A valid email address is required.

Note: All applications must include a copy of the deed and certificate of real estate value or the document recording numbers, provided in the closing packet.
